# Amounts and currencies

> How the PointZero API formats amounts in minor units, ISO 4217 currencies, ISO 3166 country codes and UTC timestamps.

## Amounts

All amounts are integers in the smallest unit of the currency. `1299` in `EUR` means €12.99. For currencies without minor units, such as `JPY`, `1299` means ¥1,299.

## Currencies and countries

* Currencies use three-letter ISO 4217 codes in upper case: `EUR`, `USD`, `GBP`.
* Countries use two-letter ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 codes: `ES`, `DE`, `US`.

A transaction in a foreign currency has two amounts:

| Field | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `amount`, `currency` | Amount charged in the card currency |
| `merchant_amount`, `merchant_currency` | Amount in the currency of the merchant |

## Dates

Timestamps are ISO 8601 strings in UTC, for example `2026-10-05T19:48:00Z`. Daily and monthly spending limits reset at 00:00 UTC.
