# Disputes

> Open a chargeback on a settled card transaction, attach evidence, and follow the dispute from open to won, lost or withdrawn.

Open a dispute when a cardholder does not recognise a transaction, was charged twice or did not receive what they paid for. Only `settled` transactions can be disputed.

```bash theme={null}
curl https://api.pointzero.io/v1/disputes \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $POINTZERO_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: $(uuidgen)" \
  -d '{
    "transaction_id": "txn_01JZ8P7H2R",
    "reason": "goods_not_received",
    "evidence": { "description": "Order placed on 12 September, never delivered." }
  }'
```

Leave out `amount` to dispute the full transaction.

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `open` | Created, not yet sent to the network. |
| `under_review` | Being reviewed by the network and the merchant. |
| `won` | Resolved in the cardholder's favour. |
| `lost` | Resolved in the merchant's favour. |
| `withdrawn` | Closed by you. |

<Note>
  Card networks set deadlines for opening disputes, usually 120 days from the transaction date.
