# Idempotency

> Send an Idempotency-Key header with create requests so network retries never issue a second card, customer, order or dispute.

`POST` requests that create objects accept an `Idempotency-Key` header. If a request with the same key is repeated, the API returns the result of the first request instead of creating a second object.

```bash theme={null}
curl https://api.pointzero.io/v1/cards \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $POINTZERO_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -H "Idempotency-Key: 6f1c2c3e-5d3a-4d2b-9a8e-1f2b3c4d5e6f" \
  -d '{ "customer_id": "cus_01JZ8M4X7K", "type": "virtual", "currency": "EUR" }'
```

* Use a UUID v4 or another random value up to 255 characters.
* Keys expire after 24 hours.
* Reusing a key with a different request body returns `409`.

The header is supported on: create customer, create card, replace card, provision to a wallet, order a physical card and create a dispute.
